discovery
park |
Seattle, WA |
Discovery Park is an enigma. It's a city
park, but with 534 acres and an adjacent two miles of
protected tidal beaches and meadowlands it seems more
like a National Park or Recreation Area. It is operated
and maintained by the Seattle Parks and Recreation. |
The site is one of the most breathtaking
in the Seattle City area. It is located on Magnolia bluff
overlooking Puget Sound. The dramatic diversity of cliffs,
sand dunes, thickets and beaches make it a must see.
Discovery Park provides an open space of tranquility
away from the hectic world of the city. |

Lighthouse at Shilshole Bay, Discovery Park
|

Shilshole Bay, Discovery Park |
Discovery Park caters to multiple uses but in a way
that generally separates the various activities giving
the hiker an experience that is something more like a
wilderness experience. With a detour to see the lighthouse,
the loop trail is about 5 miles long and goes through
meadow, a bluff overlooking Shilshole Bay, as well as
deep shady forest. |
